Combination (Research and Motor method) Octane Rating Unit SINPAR FTC-M1 is a complete system for octane determination, conforming to ASTM D 2699 (ISO 5164) and ASTM D 2700(ISO5163) Standard Test method for Knock Characteristics of Motor and /or Aviation Fuels by the Research and Motor Methods respectively.

These methods are accepted worldwide as the standard for determining the octane quality of gasoline and fuel blending components.The Combination Unit provides the capability to switch between Research and Motor Methods with minor equipment adjustments. With either method,testing capabilities cover the 40 -120 octane number range.

NOTE:*1 Intake air temperature for Research Method engines can be adjusted ±22℃ from the base temperature specified for the prevailing barometric pressure if the rating unit is temperature tuned to rate a toluene standardization fuel blend. The temperature must then be maintained within ±1℃.  See ASTM D 2699 for details.

Function Features

--Research/ Motor Conversion is accomplished by the use of pole changing Multi-Speed three phase induction motor provided with the unit to allow adjustment of engine speed to meet both Research (600 RPM) and Motor (900 RPM) specifications.

--The compression ratio (C.R.) changer motor assembly is the most convenient used method for turning the worm shaft in either direction to adjust CFR engine cylinder height. 

--Spark timing can directly display to the operator for easy reference and recording.

--Safety systems provide engine shut-down when any of these conditions are experienced: low oil pressure, loss of cooling water, or electrical overload of the synchronous/ reluctance motor.

--Air humidity control equipment is supplied to condition the engine’s intake air to between 25-50 grains of moisture prescribed of dry air as prescribed in the ASTM method.
